US Open 2015: Roger Federer says goodbye to John Isner in three sets to enter rooms

Roger Federer cut big-serving American John Isner in three sets in the US Open Monday to claim accustomed grand slam quarter-final spot at Flushing Meadows. The second Swiss favorite, winner of a record 17 Grand Slam titles, beat 13th seed Isner 7-6 (0) 7-6 (6) 5.7 of establishing a last eight clash against 12th seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who ousted sixth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych in four sets. The world number two has played his 46th Grand Slam quarter-final



Federer, who never lost his serve, stood firm in the service line to thwart Isner and used his skills returning to derail a pair of long lines that enjoys American. The 34-year-old Federer closed two hours, 39 minutes fourth round match by breaking the 10-inch-six foot (2.08 meter) Isner serve, ending the American chain of 108 consecutive service held in the USA Open, dating from the start of the championship last year. His perfect score in the first set tiebreak snapped a streak even longer Isner. 429 tiebreak played by Isner, who had never fallen from 7-0. "Seven-love is obviously a very good score against John," Federer said.
